No two patients have the same skin type and irregularities. So why should treatment be a “one size fits all” solution? Instead, at United Medical and Aesthetics of Wilmington, North Carolina, our experienced team is committed to providing custom-tailored services that meet–and exceed–the needs of our patients. When considering skin resurfacing options, Aleta Sloan, PA-C, and her providers may suggest fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment available at our practice.
WHAT IS FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER TREATMENT?
Our fractional CO2 laser treatment is a revolutionary way for patients to enjoy clearer, more youthful-looking skin. This treatment is a non-surgical, innovative solution for many different skin issues and uses both ablative and non-ablative fractional energy that can effectively treat:
- Textural irregularities
- Hyperpigmentation
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scarring
- Skin imperfections
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
The number of treatment sessions required to get the desired results varies due to several factors, including the severity of the skin imperfections, your tolerance to laser treatments, and how quickly you want to see results. Faster results are seen with more aggressive treatments, which require more downtime and recovery that some patients may not achieve. Talking with our team to determine how many treatments you might need is necessary to develop a customized skin care plan.
HOW CAN FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER BE CUSTOMIZED?
Our device offers carbon dioxide laser resurfacing and skin rejuvenation with different settings, custom-tailored to the patient and their unique needs. There are several other treatments and modalities that can be used, including:
- CoolPeel. This fractional CO2 ablative treatment removes the upper layer of the skin to address skin irregularities while heating the dermis to boost the production of collagen, all in a single pass.
- Sultra. Sultra uses non-ablative light to stimulate collagen production.
- Fusion. Fusion is a blend of treatments, including CoolPeel and Sultra, for precision skin resurfacing and tightening.

Eliminate Acne Scars And Fine Lines With Co2 Laser Resurfacing & Frax 1550 Laser Treatment
Fractional CO2 laser is a type of skin treatment that reduces the appearance of acne scars, deep wrinkles, and other skin irregularities by removing the outer layers of damaged skin.
It is commonly used to treat acne scars, but it also can be used to treat a wide range of skin problems, such as:
Age spots
Crow’s feet
Enlarged oil glands (especially around the nose)
Fine lines and wrinkles
Hyperpigmentation
Sagging skin
Sun damage
Uneven skin tone
Warts
Generally, it is ideal for people who like to minimize the appearance of acne scarring, fine lines, pigmentation, and other skin conditions listed above.
It is not recommended for individuals with extensive breakouts, open wounds, or any face infections, who take oral isotretinoin, or who have chronic medical conditions.
You must schedule a consultation with a dermatologist for them to assess whether you are qualified for the Procedure or not.
The fractional CO2 laser procedure itself lasts for only 15 to 20 minutes. It is often done by applying a local anesthetic cream to the problem area 30 to 45 minutes before ensuring painless treatment.
It uses short-pulsed light energy (known as ultra pulse) that is continuously blasted to remove thin outer layers of damaged skin.
Then, the Procedure activates the production of multiple microthermal zones that reach deep into the skin, stimulating your body’s natural healing process and boosting collagen production. ”
Before undergoing a fractional CO2 laser procedure, following these pre-treatment rules is recommended.
Don’t use products containing retinoids, as it can affect the results.
Avoid excessive sun exposure two weeks before the laser treatment.
Stop taking medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and vitamin E, which can lead to prolonged clotting.
Consult your dermatologist to determine if you’re a good candidate for the fractional CO2 laser treatment.
Patients only have to undergo shorter recovery periods—lasting 5 to 7 days and may find some redness or swelling in the treated area. Some may even experience discomfort and scabs.
The skin treatment results will depend on the problem you are targeting. Eliminating acne scars and fine lines, it may take a while for the results to show up.
So what are you waiting for? Schedule your appointment to say goodbye to wrinkles!
